- Cameroon is sometimes called "Africa in Miniature" because it has a remarkable variety of African environments, including tropical coasts, dense rainforests, vast savannas, highlands with cooler climates, desert-like regions, and even the active volcano.
- Along with a variety of African landscapes, Cameroon has more than 250 indigenous languages, plus French and English as official languages. It’s one of the most linguistically diverse countries on the planet.
- Cameroon is home to the Cross River gorilla — the world's rarest great ape. This ape is critically endangered with fewer than 300 left.
- If you plan on going to the southwest coast near Mount Cameroon, you better bring an umbrella. Because it is often cited as the second- or third-wettest place on Earth, averaging over 33 feet of rain per year!
- Cameroon's Lake Nyos is one of only three known "exploding lakes" which can release massive clouds of deadly carbon dioxide. In 1986 it did just that. The released gas suffocated 1,746 people and thousands of animals in nearby villages.
