- Public buses in Samoa have wildly colorful exteriors. They are decked out with LED lights and sometimes blare music as they roll down the road. These buses are almost as much party vehicles as they are public transport.
- The English word "tattoo" comes from the Samoan "tatau" which refers to their profound cultural practice of painfully applying full-body, waist-to-knee tattoos on men to signify manhood, endurance and status.
- Samoa's version of cricket has no strict team sizes, unlimited players, hilarious fielding antics, dancing, and chanting — really, it's more massive village party than competitive sport.
- Samoa was the first Pacific nation to gain independence in 1962.
- Samoa once time-traveled a whole day forward: back in 2011, it wanted to switch sides of the International Date Line to better align with trading partners Australia and New Zealand. So they skipped Friday, December 30th entirely, jumping straight to Saturday, December 31st.
