- The Girl Scouts began in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia. Initially called Girl Guides, the first troop started with 18 girls in their early-to-mid teens.
- Girl Scout cookies began in 1917 in Oklahoma. The Mistletoe Troop made sugar cookies at their home and sold them in a high school caferia to fund their activities.
- Besides Thin Mints (a top-seller), other popular Girl Scout cookies include Caramel Samoas, Peanut Butter Patties, and Lemon-ups.
- The Girl Scouts have a structured, age-appropriate program for girls from kindergarten through high school. These are:
- Daisies (K–1) earning petals, exploring nature, making a difference in the community
- Brownies (Grades 2–3) learning new skills, earning badges, exploring the world
- Juniors (Grade 4–5) earning the Bronze Award, taking on more responsibility, exploring outdoors
