Fun Facts About Kill Bill

  • The credits for Kill Bill tell us the character of the Bride was "created by Q & U" (or Quentin and Uma). Director Quentin Tarantino had conceived of the movie while he was filming Pulp Fiction (1984) and pitched the idea to Uma Thurman at a bar in Japan. They worked together to develop her backstory.
  • The Bride's name is initially censored with a "bleep" sound. The director did this to mimic the mystery tropes of old revenge films.
  • Originally Kill Bill was to be one very long movie. But the studio pushed to split it into two volumes released in theaters in 2003 and 2004.
  • The gang called The Crazy 88 are actually far fewer in number. Officially, there are 40 actors credited with playing members of the gang, but viewers have tallied up 49–50 different members. By some counts, the Bride kills around 70–76 people in the House of Blue Leaves fight scene.
  • The House of Blue Leaves massacre was not primarily switched to black-and-white for stylistic reasons. It was done to reduce the appearance of gore and thus avoid an NC-17 rating.
  • The iconic yellow jumpsuit worn by Uma Thurman is a direct homage to Bruce Lee. It is inspired by the outfit he wore in his final, unfinished film Game of Death (1972).
  • David Carradine relied on his background as a dancer, boxer and fencer for the TV series Kung Fu (1972–1975). Only when he landed the role of the assassin Bill in Kill Bill did he train extensively in the martial arts.
  • The Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique is fictional. It is completely made up for the movie, but designed to feel like a fatal technique taught by a legendary martial arts master.
