During filming, Sean Penn was arrested for assaulting Jeffrey Klein, a movie extra. Penn objected to Klein taking his picture without permission, so he swore and then spat at Klein. When Klein spat back, Penn punched him several times in the face until the crew restrained him. Penn was sentenced to 60 days in jail and ended up serving 33 days of the sentence.
