Did you know?
The lead role was offered to several prominent actors before Tom Hanks was cast. These include Bill Murray and Chevy Chase. John Travolta also turned down the part and later said it was a big mistake. Bill Paxton was director Robert Zemeckis' first choice, but the studio demanded someone with greater star power. The novel's author, Winston Groom, always envisioned John Goodman. Certainly the heavyset Goodman is a better match physically, as Gump is described in the novel as a massive football player who stood 6 foot 6 inches tall and weighed 242 pounds by the age of sixteen.
These terms include actor, character, and director names; other people, places, and things encountered in the storyline; themes, ideas, and subject matter handled in the movie — basically, anything that seems reasonable.
