Did you know?
Screenwriter James Vanderbilt was initially concerned about the length of the 200-page script. The average length for feature films is around 90 to 120 pages. But David Fincher told him not too worry. He would direct the actors to deliver their lines at a rapid-fire pace. While this may be the underlying technical reason, it also works stylistically for the film. The fast-talking characters mimic how people actually talk when under pressure. This creates an atmosphere of tension and frantic urgency for the viewers. Overall, it works quite nicely for a crime thriller chronicling the hunt for a serial killer.
These terms include actor, character, and director names; other people, places, and things encountered in the storyline; themes, ideas, and subject matter handled in the movie — basically, anything that seems reasonable.
