- Austria's simple red-white-red flag is one of the world's oldest national symbols. Its design dates back to 1191 when Duke Leopold V's white tunic was soaked in blood during the Siege of Acre — except for a clean white stripe under his belt. He liked the look and made it his banner.
- Arnold Schwarzenegger’s hometown of Thal, Austria has a giant statue of him as Conan the Barbarian.
- You might be forgiven if you thought the croissant was invented in France. But the flaky pastry actually originates in Austria and goes back at least to the 13th century.
