- Cabo Verde's islands are young, volcanic landforms. And some of them, like Fogo, are still active. A 2014–15 eruption created brand-new land on that island.
- No one lived in Cabo Verde before Portuguese explorers discovered the islands in 1456–60.
- Cabo Verde has 10 main islands each with a different climate. You can go from desert dunes and salt flats to lush green mountains and cloud forests to fertile volcanic soil in a single trip.
- Sal Island is consistently ranked among the top 3 windsurfing and kitesurfing spots in the world thanks to reliable trade winds, warm water, and varied conditions at spots like Kite Beach and Santa Maria.
- Cabo Verde has the highest shark-to-human ratio in the world and the world's second-largest turtle nesting site. The harmless lemon sharks breed in huge numbers around Sal, while Boa Vista's beaches host tens of thousands of loggerhead sea turtles every summer — both are a sight to be seen!
