- Cote D’Ivoire houses the largest church building in the world. The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace was completed in 1989, is bigger than St. Peter's in Rome, and was dedicated by Pope John Paul II.
- The country's name literally means Ivory Coast. But exporting raw ivory has been banned since 1989.
- Cote D’Ivoire is famous for its chimpanzees' sophisticated stone tool use. They have been observed using rocks as hammers and anvils to crack hard nuts.
- The country's flag was influenced by the wife of the first President who advocated for a design that differed from France's, but retained some continuity. Three vertical stripes were used: orange, symbolizing national growth, white for peace, and green for hope.
