  • The Czech Republic is one of the least religious countries in the world. Around 70–80% of Czechs identify as outright atheist.
  • Prague's Astronomical Clock, installed in 1410, is the oldest astronomical clock still in operation. It still chimes every hour with its famous procession of the Apostles.
  • The word robot was introduced in the Czech Republic. The Czech word "robota" comes from a 1920 play and means forced labor or drudgery.
  • There is a small Roman Catholic chapel in the Czech Republic that contains the skeletons of between 40,000 and 70,000 people. Their bones form decorations and furnishings for the chapel, including a large chandelier, garlands of skulls, a coat of arms, and other macabre designs.
  • Sugar cubes were invented by a Czech in 1843, along with contact lenses and Semtex during the 1950s–60s.
