- Gabon has the world's largest population of leatherback sea turtles, and the world's highest density of western lowland gorillas.
- Gabon is one of the very few African countries that has never experienced a military takeover since it took independence in 1960.
- The equator runs right through Gabon. On the island of Nconi, you can stand with one foot in the northern hemisphere and one in the southern hemisphere.
