  • The Jamaican flag is one of only two national flags in the world that does not feature red, white, or blue. The other country is Mauritania.
  • In an effort to control rats in sugar cane fields, Jamaica introduced mongooses in the 1870s. The plan succeeded too well: nearly all native ground-dwelling animals, including many snakes, were decimated.
