Fun Facts About Liechtenstein
- Liechtenstein is a doubly landlocked country. This means it isn't just surrounded by land, like any landlocked country. All of its neighbors (Austria and Switzerland) are also landlocked. In other words, to reach the sea, you have to travel through at least two countries.
- About half the workforce of Liechtenstein commutes daily from neighboring Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. This makes for a unique situation: its daily working population is actually higher than the total number of residents in the country (41,000 versus 40,000 people).
- Liechtenstein is the world's leading producer of false teeth . They manufacture millions of artificial teeth annually, capturing about 20% of the global market and making it a key export.
- Liechtenstein was the last country in Europe to grant women the right to vote. This happened in 1984.
- Liechtenstein discovered at the 1936 Olympics that its flag was identical to the flag of Haiti. So Liechtenstein quickly added a gold crown to its flag to distinguish it from Haiti's.
