- About 80% of the world's natural vanilla comes from Madagascar. This iconic spice comes from a particular orchid, and Madagascar's climate and manual pollination methods make it a prime source.
- Madagascar boasts six of the world's nine baobab tree species. These massive, upside-down looking "trees of life" can live over 1,000 years.
- Over half the world's chameleon species are found in Madagascar, including one small enough to perch on a matchstick head.
