- Despite having railway tracks, no trains have run in Malawi for many years. Most people travel by walking, riding bikes, or taking a minibus.
- Lake Malawi, which covers about one-fifth of the country's land area, is a biodiversity hotspot. It is home to more species of fish than any other lake in the world (around 1,000).
- Lake Malawi is called the "Calendar Lake" because its dimensions mirror the days, weeks, and months of a year. It is approximately 365 miles long, 52 miles wide at its broadest, and is fed by 12 main rivers.
- Malawi's wildlife scene is thriving due to major conservation efforts, especially the landmark "500 Elephants" project that moved elephants to repopulate reserves in 2016–17.
- Malawi is nicknamed the "Warm Heart of Africa" because of the genuine warmth, hospitality, and welcoming nature of its people.
