- Mozambique's national flag features an AK-47 rifle. This is the only country flag in the world to include a modern weapon. It symbolizes its armed struggle for independence from Portuguese rule.
- Mozambique is a world leader in cashew nut production. It once lead production in the 1960s, but the civil war (1977–92) devastated the industry. However, cashews remain a key part of Mozambique's economy and cuisine.
- Mozambique produces some of the world's finest rubies, including those in the highly prized "Pigeon's Blood" color.
- Certain lakes in Mozambique harbor more fish species than any other lake on Earth, and nearly all of them are unique to its waters.
- Mozambique has over 1,500 miles of pristine Indian Ocean coastline. This is about twice the size of California's beaches. Many stretches are still completely untouched and even nameless.
