  • Nepal has the world's only non-rectangular national flag. Its unique shape of two stacked crimson triangles with a blue border represents the Himalayas, with red symbolizing bravery and blue for peace and hope. The sun and moon emblems represent longevity and the nation's spirit.
  • Nepal is home to eight of the world's 10 highest mountains. This includes the famous Mount Everest, the world's tallest, which stands more than 29,000 feet above sea level.
  • Nepal follows a unique lunisolar Hindu calendar that runs about 56–57 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar we use today.
  • The legendary Yeti (or Abominable Snowman) originates from Nepal's Himalayas. Alleged sightings of this large, ape-like creature on the snowy peaks have fueled myths for centuries.
  • Nepal is also home to the world's deepest canyon, which plunges over 18,200 feet.
