Fun Facts About Norway
- Norway has the world's longest road tunnel. It is more than 15 miles long and comes complete with colorful blue/yellow lighting to combat driver fatigue.
- Ancient rock carvings in Norway depict hunters on skis, suggesting the country essentially invented the sport of skiing roughly 6,000 to 7,000 years ago.
- Norway's coastline is incredibly complex with over 1,000 fjords and inlets. If straightened out, it would measure over 15,000 miles, enough to wrap more than halfway around the Earth.
- Norway has won more Winter Olympic medals (roughly 400) than any other nation, with dominance especially in skiing (whether that be cross-country, ski jumping or Nordic combined) and the biathlon.
- In northern Norway, the Midnight Sun shines for up to 76 continuous days in summer. This allows for 24/7 outdoor activities. So places like golf courses can, and do, stay open all night.
