- Palau has a unique political structure. With only about 18,000 people, there are 16 states, each with its own chief and legislature. It's one of the most "over-governed" places per capita.
- Palauan society is strictly matrilineal, where family lineage, inheritance, and traditional titles are indeed passed down through the mother's side.
- Palau is a world-renowned diving haven. You'll find over 1,500 species of fish and 350 types of coral in its pristine waters.
- Palau is home to Jellyfish Lake, a marine lake where millions of golden jellyfish migrate daily. This unique subspecies of jellyfish evolved without predators, losing their potent sting. Tourists can safely snorkel among them.
- Palau has saltwater crocodiles. But despite their dangerous reputation, only one fatal attack has ever been recorded in modern history. That was back in 1965.
