Fun Facts About Rwanda
- Rwanda is nicknamed the "Land of a Thousand Hills" because of its countless rolling hills, volcanoes and valleys which create a picturesque and rugged landscape.
- Rwanda uses drones to deliver medical supplies, like life-saving blood products, to remote areas. It is one of the first countries to pioneer this high-tech solution.
- There are many food-related superstitions in Rwanda. For instance, if you eat the brains of a fish, it is believed the devil will visit you that night, while eating green bananas will make your backside fat.
- Rwanda has the highest percentage of women in parliament in the world. Over 60% of its parliamentary seats are held by the fairer sex.
- Rwanda has a mandatory monthly community service day for citizens (aged 18–65) to clean streets and plant trees. Its capital city is famous as Africa's cleanest — you'll rarely spot litter on the streets.
