  • The people of Senegal love tea so much they have a three-round ritual. The first cup is bitter, the second is milder, while the third is brewed to be sweet. It often takes hours to complete the entire ritual.
  • There is a unique island village in Senegal constructed over many centuries from millions of accumulated clam and oyster shells. It is linked to the mainland part of the town by a long wooden bridge.
  • The Baobab tree is a national emblem in Senegal. Its massive trunks can store thousands of gallons of water and live over 1,000 years.
  • Senegal has a national bird sanctuary internationally recognized as one of the world's top birdwatching spots. It hosts roughly three million migratory birds annually. It is particularly famous for Great White Pelicans and large flocks of Greater Flamingos.
