  • South Koreans generally don't tip in restaurants because excellent service is just expected as part of the job.
  • The canned meat product Spam is a beloved gift item in South Korea, especially during holidays, and features prominently in popular dishes. It is a nostalgic throwback to the Korean War era when U.S. soldiers introduced it.
  • Tourists traveling in South Korea will notice buildings often skip the 4th floor. That's because the number 4 is considered unlucky because it sounds identical to their word for death.
