  • Street food in Sri Lanka is traditionally served wrapped in old newspaper, although food safety officials have been recommending the use of more appropriate materials as of late.
  • Cinnamon originally came from Sri Lanka. It's still considered some of the purest and healthiest in the world.
  • Sri Lanka's iconic stilt fishermen perch on poles to fish. This unique tradition involves balancing on a crossbar tied to a seabed-planted pole and using handlines for small fish like herring. Today it's mostly staged for tourists.
