- Sudanese pyramids are unique because many were built for powerful queens, not just for kings (pharaohs) like in Egypt.
- Sudan is the world's leading source of gum Arabic, procuding about 75–80% of total supply. Extracted from acacia trees, this sticky sap is secretly in your soda, candy, inks and makeup.
- Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, is named for the Arabic word for "elephant's trunk" because the land strip between the Blue Nile and White Nile rivers looks like an elephant's trunk extending into the water.
- Black tea spiced with cinnamon is a beloved and common drink in Sudan.
