- Suriname is the only country in South America where Dutch is the official language. It is used in government, education, business, and media. Approximately 60% of the population speaks it as their native language.
- If traveling in Suriname and someone comes up to you and says "No spang" — don't worry, literally. Because its meaning is equivalent to the American expression "no worries" (or "don't stress", "no problem" or "it's all good").
- Suriname has only one cinema house in the entire country. Located in the capital city, it's a modern complex with multiple screens.
- About 94% of Suriname is covered in pristine rainforest. It's home to more butterfly species than people in some areas.
- The Surinam Toad is incredibly unique. It's super flat like a leaf, and females carry babies embedded in their backs until they emerge fully formed.
