  • In Thailand it is considered extremely rude, even as a playful or affectionate gesture, to touch someone's head. Thais consider the head the most sacred part of the body; feet are the lowest and dirtiest.
  • Thailand is home to the world’s smallest mammal, the bumblebee bat. It measures just over an inch long and weighs less than a penny.
  • It's quite common for Thais to nickname each other with random English words, sometimes just because the words sound cool. So when traveling in Thailand, don't be surprised if you meet Bank, his wife Pancake, and their two children Rocks and Shampoo.
  • Thailand hosts the famous Monkey Buffet Festival every November, where locals prepare a huge vegetarian feast of fruit, veggies, and sweets for thousandss of wild macaques. Thais view these monkeys as good luck symbols.
  • Thailand celebrates National Elephant Day every March. Established in 1998, it is meant to honor the vital role elephants play in Thai culture, history, and economy.
