- Lake Togo is a lakeside town that's considered an historical center of voodoo where traditional spiritual practices thrive. Visitors to the town experience a unique blend of ancient beliefs and colonial history.
- Togo is famously narrow, about 360 miles long, but only around 60–90 miles wide in most places. It's often called Africa's "longest thin country."
- Despite its small size, Togo was once called the "Paris of West Africa". This was particularly the case in its capital city thanks to its wide boulevards, elegant architecture, and cosmopolitan atmosphere during the French colonial era.
- Togo was once central to the historic "Slave Coast" along the Gulf of Guinea. It served as a major hub for the trasportation of enslaved Africans to the Americas from the 16th to the 19th centuries.
- In northern Togo, you'll find incredible mud tower-houses that look like miniature fortresses or castles, complete with granaries on top.
