Fun Facts About Tunisia
- Fans of Star Wars (1977) will remember Luke Skywalker's homestead on the fictitious desert planet Tatooine. This movie was filmed almost entirely in Tunisia. Many of the iconic sets are still standing today.
- Tunisia is a significant global producer of dates. Its annual output exceeds 200,000 tons. The country has over 100 recognized varieties and is particularly famous for some of the sweetest dates in the world.
- It's customary for Tunisian men to wear a carnation behind their ear during weddings and celebrations. Ladies, pay attention: if the flower is behind the left ear, the man is taken. But if the flower is behind the right ear, he's single and available.
- There's an extremely old olive tree in Tunisia which still produces olives. Villagers calim it's over 2,500 years old.
- Tunisia is home to the ancient city of Carthage, the once superpower known for its mighty navy, massive walls, and the legendary general Hannibal who crossed the Alps with elephants.
