Fun Facts About Zimbabwe
- Strong beliefs in mermaids persist in Zimbabwe. Residents often blame them for drownings and disappearances. They have even halted government water projects out of fear of them.
- In traditional Zimbabwean culture, a man with a big belly is often seen as someone who has a good standard of living. It indicates he can afford plenty of meat.
- Zimbabwe once had extreme hyperinflation. Around 2008, they issued a 100 trillion dollar note. At the time it was worth around 40 US cents and is now a collector's item.
- Zimbabwe features iconic balancing rocks. These massive granite boulders were precariously stacked by natural erosion. They appear on the country's banknotes.
- Most Zimbabweans have a totem or sacred animal representing family lineage that they respect and avoid eating, like the lion or monkey.
