Word Search Puzzles
Pet Names and Nicknames
Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! If you keep an animal as a pet, you know the necessity of giving it a name. Nothing screams laziness like calling your cat "cat" and dog "dog" — yes, people actually do this!
We thought it would be fun to put together a list of pet names — the good, the bad, and the silly — and make word search puzzles out of them. We made lists for cats, dogs, bunnies, hamsters, horses, along with birds, snakes, and other reptiles. A total of 1,800 names, or enough for 90 puzzles. These puzzles you'll find on the first two pages.
We then turned to nicknames. First we compiled a list of sweet nicknames for babies. We then came up with a list of those cringe-worthy nicknames lovers call each other. Lastly, we found cute nicknames for red heads, and (boarderline offensive) nicknames for fat, skinny, and short guys. In total, about 800 nicknames in 40 word searches. You'll find these puzzles on page three.
Note that each of the puzzles hides 20 names or nicknames. But there's a twist. Only 18 of these 20 names are actually listed. So you're on your own to find the 2 unlisted ones. A full solution is provided if you get stuck.
By the way, we designed these puzzles to be easily read. Both the puzzle grids and word lists are in large 17-point font size. And the puzzle grids, which are 22×20 letters, spans the entire width of the page. This way you won't have to squint.
The puzzles are printer-friendly. As long as your device can open PDF files and your printer is loaded with standard 8.5" × 11" paper, you are all set to start solving. Good luck!
