Fun Facts About Disney Villains
- The very first spoken line of any full-length Disney animated movie belongs to a villain. In Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), the Evil Queen asks her Magic Mirror the infamous question: "Who is the fairest one of all?"
- The name Cruella de Vil, the infamous villain from the 1961 movie The Hundred and One Dalmatians, drew inspiration from "Count de Ville" — an alias Dracula uses in Bram Stoker's classic novel. It's also a clever pun combining the words "cruel" and "devil."
- Many classic Disney villains meet their demise by falling from great heights, a common and child-friendly way. These include Evil Queen, Maleficent, Gaston, and Scar.
- Captain Hook is one of the few classic Disney villains who survives his movies. Instead of meeting a fatal end, his defeats are always comical and humiliating, like being repeatedly chased off by a crocodile or an octopus.
- The 2014 live-action Maleficent marked the first Disney film centered entirely on a classic villain. It presented her with a sympathetic backstory.
