Themed Word Search Puzzles

Difficulty level: hard

Here are over 200 word search puzzles organized into fun categories. Everything from Arcade Games to Zombies, Fabrics to Junk Food. Hunt around, you might find something of interest.

The difficulty level of these puzzles is hard: there are 15 words hidden in 22 × 20 letter grids, with 9 additional unlisted words which may, or may not, be related to the puzzle's theme. These unlisted words are provided with the puzzle's solution.

You can print the puzzles directly from your internet browser. But we also created a PDF file for each puzzle (and its solution). So if you want to save on printer ink, download and print these files instead. A 'Printer-friendly' link can be found on each puzzle page. These PDFs were formated to print out nicely on standard 8.5" × 11" paper.

By the way, we add new puzzles to this page sporadically. So if you like them, be sure to come back.

We also have themed word search puzzles of medium difficulty.

Did you know?

Historically, there are two men who compete for the title of inventor of the word search puzzle. One man, a Spaniard named Pedro Ocón de Oro, is said to have published his Sopa de Letras (or Soup of letters) sometime in the 1960s. While this claim is not completely verifiable, we do know for certain that Norman E. Gibat first published a word search in the Selenby Digest on March 1, 1968 in Norman, Oklahoma. This makes the word search puzzle just over 60 years old, considerly younger than the equally popular crossword puzzle, which has been around for well over 100 years.
